As the 2018-2019 school year comes to an end, Lakeview administrators (Principal Cheryl Caesar and Assistant Principal Deirdra Jackson) would like to extend congratulations and warm wishes to their retirees. After many years of dedicated service to Lakeview Preschool and Zion Elementary School District 6, Janise “Jay” Labedz and Virginia “Ginger” Miller are retiring from District 6.

Jay Labedz has been with District 6 for 16 years as a social worker and has spent the last 5 years at Lakeview. Jay’s career as a social worker has put her in many different environments outside of schools. She gravitated towards working in a school setting because there is more opportunity to work with children and make a bigger impact in their lives. When asked what her favorite part about working at Lakeview was, she responded with “the children. I love the little ones and being able to provide early intervention for those who need it. Early intervention helps them to create a more successful future.” Jay has made a huge impression on the children in District 6 and has formed a wonderful base for them to grow from.

Ginger Miller has been with the District since 1999 and has spent the entirety of that time at Lakeview. Ginger entered the education world because of her own educational experience. When Ginger was in fourth grade, she was asked to read a passage in front of the class. Her teacher asked her to sit down and to stop reading, which she perceived as negative commentary on her reading skills. Looking back, Ginger realizes she may have inaccurately read this situation, but it affected her well into her adult life. Because of this experience, Ginger wanted to enter the educational world to help ensure that children are not deterred from coming to school and dedicate themselves to becoming lifelong learners. Her passion and commitment to providing education and support to children has made her a wonderful teacher and addition to District 6.

As these two amazing staff members leave Lakeview and begin the next chapter of their lives, Principal Cheryl Caesar would like to give some final parting words, “As the principal, I am grateful for them and the words of wisdom they have shared with me. Because of staff members like Jay and Ginger, I have a greater understanding of the history of Lakeview and the District, which has supported me in my leadership for this building.”
